Terms and Conditions for Dayton Talks

Welcome to Dayton Talks! These Terms and Conditions outline the rules and expectations for using our platform. By accessing or participating in the site, you agree to follow the terms below. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By using Dayton Talks, you agree to comply with these Terms and Conditions and all applicable laws. This platform is intended for users age 13 and older.

 

Membership Approval:

All member accounts are subject to approval by the Dayton Talks team. We reserve the right to approve or deny any membership request at our sole discretion to protect the safety and purpose of the community.

2. Purpose of the Platform

Dayton Talks is a community space for residents of Dayton, Ohio, and surrounding areas to connect, share, and participate in local discussions, events, and services. Our goal is to foster respectful, helpful, and positive engagement between neighbors.

3. User Responsibilities

By using Dayton Talks, you agree to:

 

  • Post only content you own or have permission to share

  • Avoid harmful, offensive, or inappropriate content

  • Respect others and refrain from harassment or discrimination

  • Use the platform in a lawful and constructive manner

  • Participate in forums, groups, and event discussions respectfully, avoiding spam, misinformation, or disruptive behavior

 

 

Pending Membership:

Your account may remain in a pending state until reviewed. Submission does not guarantee access.

 

We reserve the right to moderate or remove any posts, comments, or group content that violates these terms or harms the integrity of the community.

4. Content Ownership

You retain ownership of content you post (e.g., comments, photos, videos). By posting on Dayton Talks, you grant us a non-exclusive right to display and share that content within the platform. We will never sell or use your content outside of Dayton Talks without your permission.

5. Third-Party Content

Some platform features may include tools or content from third parties (such as embedded videos, ad networks, or payment processors). Dayton Talks is not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or behavior of third-party services.

6. Donations and Contributions

Dayton Talks may accept optional donations to support community initiatives and platform maintenance. Donations are not tax-deductible. By donating, you agree that funds may be allocated at the discretion of the platform owner for purposes such as technology upgrades, hosting, events, and community programs.

7. Termination of Use

We may suspend or terminate your access to Dayton Talks for violating these terms, misusing the platform, or engaging in behavior that harms the community. Depending on the severity, action may be taken with or without prior notice.

8. Limitation of Liability

Dayton Talks is provided on an “as is” basis. While we work to maintain a secure, reliable, and respectful platform, we are not liable for any damages, losses, or disruptions resulting from your use of the site.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions at any time. The latest version will always be posted here. Continued use of the platform after updates means you agree to the revised terms.

10. Subscription Services

Dayton Talks offers optional subscription-based services for users and businesses to promote themselves, contribute blog content, or access additional features.

 

By subscribing, you agree to:

 

  • Recurring Payments: Charged monthly or annually based on your selected plan

  • Billing Authorization: You authorize Dayton Talks or its processor to charge your payment method on file

  • Cancellation: You may cancel at any time; access remains through the end of the current billing cycle. No partial refunds

  • Changes: We reserve the right to adjust pricing or features, with advance notice

  • Account Responsibility: You are responsible for accurate billing information and all charges under your account

 

 

Use of subscriptions to post spam, offensive, or misleading content may result in suspension without refund.

11. Cookies and Tracking

Dayton Talks may use cookies and similar technologies to improve user experience, track usage, and display relevant ads. We may partner with Google AdSense or other services for ad personalization.

 

You agree to the use of cookies and tracking in accordance with our Privacy Policy. You can manage ad settings at Google Ads Settings or www.aboutads.info/choices.

12. Blog Content Disclaimer

Blog posts on Dayton Talks are opinion-based and informational. They do not represent verified news, legal, medical, or financial advice.

 

Opinions shared belong to the individual authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of Dayton Talks. This also applies to content in forums, groups, and event-related discussions.

 

We are not responsible for how users interpret or act upon blog or group content.

13. Age Restriction and Safety

Dayton Talks is intended for users age 13 and older. If you’re under 13, do not use the site. We ask that minors use the platform with a parent or guardian. Any accounts found in violation may be removed.

14. Violations & Enforcement

We may remove content, restrict access, or terminate services if a user:

 

  • Harasses or threatens other members

  • Posts offensive, discriminatory, or false content

  • Spams groups, forums, or comment sections

  • Abuses subscriptions or misrepresents information

  • Violates these Terms or applicable laws

15. Talking Points Rewards Program & Referral Program

Eligibility

  • Talking Points are available to all registered Dayton Talks members.

  • Points are earned through eligible activities including signing up, joining groups, engaging with posts, commenting, reacting to content, and referring new members.

Earning Points

You may earn Talking Points by:

 

  • Becoming a Dayton Talks member

  • Joining community groups

  • Posting or commenting in groups or on news stories

  • Reacting to other members’ content

  • Referring friends using your unique referral method

Points earned through automated or spammy activity may be revoked at Dayton Talks’ discretion.

 

Refer-a-Friend Program

  • You may earn Talking Points for each successful referral who signs up and actively joins at least one group.

  • Referrals must be new members and not currently associated with Dayton Talks.

  • Abuse of the referral program, including fake accounts or self-referrals, will result in forfeiture of all points.

 

Point Expiration

  • All unused Talking Points will expire 12 months from the date they are earned.

  • Expired points cannot be reinstated or transferred.

Redeeming Rewards

  • Points may be redeemed for select merchandise such as mugs, caps, shirts, and other community-themed items.

  • Rewards availability and point values are subject to change.

  • Rewards will be available to redeem starting August 2025. Members will be notified once redemption opens.

 

Other Conditions

 

  • Dayton Talks reserves the right to adjust, suspend, or cancel the program at any time without prior notice.

  • Points have no cash value and are non-transferable.

  • Misuse of the program may result in removal from the rewards system.
